Objectives

          The main objective of the project is to design and realize an innovative, flexible and low cost system for producing a patterned superhydrophobic metallic surfaces materials by nanosecond laser ablation system in order to obtain fingerprint devices for polymeric materials. It should be mentioned that the polymeric structures have the same properties as those of the metal pattern. To accomplish the main goal of the project, a set of specific and technical objectives, were identified, which will be followed throughout the project being related to project phases and activities.

          The main innovative results of the project will be:

- the realization, optimization, classification and reproducible operation of the laser ablation system in different environments (gas, liquid);

- additional non-invasive procedures in order to reduce the exposure time from superhydrophilic to superhydrophobic without affecting the surface;

- obtaining of theoretical modeling is to correlate surface roughness parameter that provides spatial information (autocorrelation length) of surface topography, amplitude parameters (such as root mean-square) roughness with contact angle data(the polar part and the dispersed part), to determine an optimal surface geometry for wetting.

- the system was calibrated from the point of view of:

              (i)  laser beam energy losses on the optical components,

              (ii)  position of the target,

           (iii) focusing lens used to determine the size of the irradiating laser spot and to determine              the fluency and intensity of laser irradiation as well as the reproducibility of the controlled                  displacement of the target.

- obtaining a fingerprint system for treatment of polymeric materials for a series of applications in biology, food industry or textile industry.
